It was another sad day for Nigerians on Sunday 29th October 2006 as ADC airlines crashed in a village just some kilometers from Abuja International airport. I knew about the crash from a TV station scrolling about the sad event, which was later aired by other local televisions and radio stations. Among the dead were Sultan Muhammadu Maccido, the sultan of Sokoto, his senator son, grandchild and other 90+ on board.

Â
Sultan Muhammadu Maccido who I was opportuned to meet with other serving youth corps members (Batch B NYSC) during our endurance trek in September 2004, had a welcoming heart for us. Former Nigerian President, Shehu Shagari was also there to welcome us to the city of the caliphate-Sokoto state. During our 3-week long orientation camping period in Farfaru Sokoto state, he (Sultan) donated two cows and other foodstuffs to us in order to enjoy our stay. He also instituted an essay competition that allows serving youths to share their stay experiences in Sokoto State. A winner collects a specific amount during the passing-out ceremony.
Back to the crash, Nigeria witnessed two crashes last year (11 December 2005 in Port Harcourt & 23 October 2005 in Lisa Village, Ogun State) and another two just occurred this year. Â What is wrong with our aviation industry in this country? Can anybody answer me?
All Nigerian sectors needs reform ranging from education to aviation. Our roads are not motorable. I watched people (on AIT TV) last week shouting about the ugly experience they had on the Benin-ore road; a journey of 45 minutes now takes about two days. For some us that will be traveling by road for December break, I’ve informed my friends to warm up for the journey because we will be spending close 3 days on the road. It is a shame! Even though you can afford to fly, I in particular is scared because of the recent events.

However, I wish the families of the departed souls the fortitude to bear the loss and I hope urgent step will be taken to curb the trend in the aviation industry.

very sad
I watched the news yesterday with tears rolling down my cheeks. many dreams have been buried in that village near Abuja. This incident is very shocking infact i am short of words to say about this issue. here in nigeria i think we need an overhulling of the aviation sector ‘cos for this plane to have crashed barely one month after the plane that was carrying top millitary officials crashed i think its a shame on we Nigerians. I don’t know why the minister of aviation has refused to resign after having about four air crashes in his ternure just between a year. I just pray that God will give the people’s family who lost thier lives the foltitude to bear the loss
We all have said!
We all have said as we all known the condition in Nigeria, and believing all problems have solution but how it will come-by left only for God. But we must keep on ridding as human but God is our creator and the judge.
ADC Air crash
I am sorry this is happening to a childhood hero Capt udom.the aviation ministry needs an overhaul thats all.Lets look back at the aircraft we are using thier ages, the radar machines and the Officials involved .have u forgotten that in Nigeria minus due process they are making noise about anything goes and the radar could be a TOKUNBO even if it reported to be new.
Oga PBJ change your minister put round pegs in round holes.
There is no fault with the pilot taking off when the weather is bad it happens attimes, that incident was an uncontrollable disaster God knows afterall. So please lets stop passing blames . we know thw cause of the crash
